Ted the movie

Main Post:

This may be unpopular opinion, but I think the movie Ted was unfunny.

I know this movie got plenty of recognitions back in 2012 and even myself, I liked the movie back then. I was 21-22 during that time, and it was probably fitting for my age.

But now I’m 32, and I couldn’t finish the movie. Especially when Mark Wahlberg ditched his girlfriend again and asked Rex (the guy who have been hitting on his gf) to cover for him. I was like “he’s 35 years old and still act like this. I don’t find this relevant.” and switched to the Chicken Run movie.

The argument between Tami-Lynn and Mila Kunis was very painful to watch. They’re over 30’s but argue like middle school kids. (Don’t get me wrong, I think Mila did well in this movie)

The convo between Ted and his boss at grocery was totally unreal. Ted insulted his boss in every sentence and he promoted him? Okay.

That fart joke from Mark’s co-worker at the beginning was cringeworthy to watch. Like... who else would make that such of statements?

Most of jokes are half-assed, I love family guy but Ted just don’t hit the same vibe.

Basically I feel like this movie may be suitable for 2012, but they’re totally out of taste in 2023. Anyone got same thoughts?

Can we talk about the Ted TV show

Main Post:

Honestly I wasn’t expecting that much, but every episode has had at least one moment that had me burst out laughing. It’s full of stupid jokes, wit and so many great moments. I’m genuinely confused how ign gave this a 6/10.. it baffles me.

I highly recommend at least giving the first episode a go if you’re skeptical.

Never post on here but haven’t seen much love for this show so wanted to show a bit of support

Top Comment: My girlfriend and I watched it after loving both the films and it absolutely blew us away. We were so sad it was only 7 (or 8 with ep 1 split) episodes because we genuinely were losing it at the jokes pretty much every scene.

Yo, "Ted" is... REALLY good.

Main Post:

For context; I've never seen the films.

Feels like Seth McFarlane projects gets a lot of crap these days - especially in online spaces. I get that Family Guy has probably overstayed its welcome at this point - but it's clear it's not a passion project for that crew anymore and the studio just wants the show running ad infinitum like "The Simpsons" (though, I do think the quality has slightly increased recently).

Feels like Ted is something McFarlane is actually passionate about and allows him to write the kind of jokes that wouldn't work on a prime time FOX TV slot.

It's essentially Live-Action Family Guy, with the brilliant acerbic wit the original 3 seasons of that show brought us back in the early aughts.

The jokes don't always land for me but they always feel clever.

I really like this.

*edit*

Also, I really appreciate the CG work on Ted himself. It's really some of the best work I've seen, which is a bit extraordinary in consideration of it being a television show.

He fits naturally into every scene and is in just about every scene. I have to wonder what the production pipeline for the show is and what the wait between seasons will be like, assuming this gets renewed.

*edit 2*

Oh yeah, this might be a bit controversial, but I'm going to try and articulate this as carefully as possible... I really like how the magnetism of the cast can be measured more in Teslas and less in HGH and Silicone.

The cast just mostly look like normal-fucking-people and not a cast full of supermodels. This feels intentional and I really appreciate that.

This isn't me calling anyone in the cast "ugly" or not-good looking, or anything like that.

I hope that makes sense and doesn't come across as offensive.

Top Comment: Wait they made a series!? I keep seeing it being promoted and I'm like "why are they pushing the fact that this movie is streaming again?" I loved the movie don't get me wrong. Had no idea it was a show now 🤔

The Ted show is great 🤣

Main Post:

I found this gem on Peacock yesterday and I immediately binged the whole season. I laughed the entire time. It was as good or better than the movies. The kid that plays John does a superb job. Just a great comedy.

Top Comment: The mom makes the show imo. The dinner date with her and the father was so great. I quote it now and then.

The TED show is so good I wish the movies weren't canon

Main Post:

This can change because I'm still on episode 5 but from I have seen so far, I like these characters too much for me to want the movies canon. This is mostly related to Johnny but I'll give my opinions on some other characters too

Mom is a treasure who should be protected at all costs. I wish the movies weren't canon so that she doesn't have to see the fuck up he son became, staying home all day smoking weed and watching porn

The cousin has a very wholesome brother-sister relationship with John, I love how protective she is. And I know the movies don't cover their every day, so there is nothing that disproves thay she and John are in touch

Finally, Johnny, I love this kid way too much. The actor is way more likeable and charismatic than Mark Walberg and he seems like a genuinely good intentioned kid, his gag of imagining fucked up back stories and the hints of wanting to be a screen writer are there and I think these are all way more interesting things than whatever the fuck his future version has going on. I wish this kid grew up to be in a better situation and that thise interests were developed

TLDR: show is good, fuck Mark Walberg

Top Comment: Yeah, teen Johnny is so much more relatable than adult Johnny.

TED the series is awful. The dialogue is terrible, unfunny and the acting horrendous

Main Post:

I can’t get passed the first episode, the table scene has canned laughter pauses between dialogue and the dialogue goes nowhere, the continuity of camera shots is terrible and the after playing John is one of the worst actors I’ve seen only matched by his SNL over acting TV mother. I can’t even bring my self to critique that garbage character. Why is it so highly ranked on IMDB and RT?

Top Comment: Because not everybody is you. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it is absolutely bad and nobody else is allowed to like it. Jesus fucking Christ, what is with you people insisting that your opinion is the only opinion in the world that matters?

‘Ted’ Season 2 Wraps Filming

Main Post: ‘Ted’ Season 2 Wraps Filming

Top Comment: The fact that this stupid little pot-humor teddy bear has turned into 2 solid movies and a good TV show is crazy. The show was a ton of fun, and the main kid is great.

The ted series is great.

Main Post:

The new ted series was just great. Every episode is just amazing. The way they blend a lot of different comedy styles and has a lot of heart is great. Making this into a sitcom is the best thing for the franchise. I hope we get many more seasons.

Top Comment: I really like it but this is coming from someone who watches a lot of Family Guy. I'm 2 episodes in and I only have 2 complaints. There were a lot of jokes that were direct Family Guy jokes being recycled. Doesn't really bother me but still. It has the issue a lot of shows and movies have no which is they make the show look like 1993 but not feel like 1993. The characters mostly act and talk like they could exist in 2023. The opening scene especially with the debate about "little people" does not feel like 1993 at all.
